BUKOWSKI: On Human Trajectory

13 May

Charles Bukowski speaks of things we think of but are afraid to voice – – – for fear of ridicule.

So we ridicule Bukowski.

We whistle past our own original sin.

I never did believe in original sin – – – the way The Church taught it.

How could a baby have sinned?

Is “instinct” the original sin?

Is “intelligence” the original sin?

Or did it take the ancients to tell us about the seven deadly sins?

Bukowski removed the cork from the wine bottle – – – and a genie appeared.

Have you seen Bukowski’s genie lately?

I keep mine in the cupboard over the oven.

Sometimes he escapes on his own.
